Non Slip Repair Mortar for Dairy Sheds.
SafetyCrete is a non-slip coating for concrete, steel or wood that can be applied where slippery surfaces pose a danger to animals or humans. This is particularly relevant in dairy sheds – it is estimated that the cost of cows slipping in dairy sheds in terms of lost production & vet costs is $80 million per year in New Zealand. The product was introduced at the 2007 Mystery Creek Field Day in the inventions section and has been sold all around New Zealand since that time. SafetyCrete is sold as a Repair Mortar, and as a Fast Cure Coating.
Areas of Use:
The product was developed over 20 months and stood the pressure of an average of 260 cows walking an exit race twice a day for 24 months. No cows had slipped over and there was no sign of appreciable wear.
Since 2007 SafetyCrete has been applied to most areas in dairy sheds. These include pit floors, pit steps, nib-walls (to improve footing when staff use the 100mm nib-wall to get up to the cow for tail painting or AB), under the milk can, where there had been deterioration of the concrete from drops of acid and at the cow entrance to the bails, milk rooms, and yards. The Repair Mortar in particular has been used extensively inside milk rooms to repair damage to concrete by milk & cleaning chemicals as dairy inspectors have identified this as problem area. SafetyCrete has been applied all year around in a variety of weather.
One of the first areas SafetyCrete was used is John Pouls Ohaupo dairy farm his comments are below:
“We milk all year and so we needed to apply it between milkings. It was easy to apply and was hard enough to walk on a few hours later. We put it in the human areas first and then applied it in areas to assist footing for the cows. It gives workers confidence and the AB technicians have commented on the surface as well.”
For John Pouls it was all about safety he wanted a reliable & durable non-slip surface.
